Manual Chiropractic Adjustments

Manual chiropractic adjustments, also known as “hands-on chiropractic”, is a therapeutic treatment in which the chiropractor utilizes their hands to manipulate and align the spine and joints in your body. Dr. Matt specializes in the Diversified Technique, which involves the chiropractor administering high-velocity adjustments that produce popping noises. Rest assured, those popping noises are perfectly normal, and they do not indicate the emergence of new injuries. They are the sound of the release of the gas bubbles that have built up inside the misaligned area.

The Diversified Technique is helpful for those with chronic pain, joint injuries, sports or automotive accident injuries, and headaches. This hands-on approach can help reduce inflammation which provides pain relief and improves your mobility, flexibility, and posture.

Instrument-Assisted Chiropractic Adjustments

Instrument-assisted chiropractic adjustments utilize specialized tools to apply gentle force with precision and control to targeted areas of the spine, joints, or soft tissues, which reduces discomfort and enhances accuracy. These types of adjustments are beneficial for individuals with sensitivities to manual manipulation. A modern approach to chiropractic care, instrument-assisted chiropractic adjustments promote spinal alignment, pain relief, and overall well-being.

Nikolay Chiropractic utilizes the following specialized tools:

• Activator: A hand-held, spring-loaded device that delivers a fast, precise, and gentle adjustment which helps restore range of motion and increases joint stability over time. This method is great for kiddos, pregnant women, seniors, and patients who are hesitant to manual adjusting.

• Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM): Used for soft tissue injuries, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia, IASTM helps stimulate a local inflammatory response and re-absorption of scar tissue around the site of the injury to promote better movement and healing.

• Intersegmental Traction Table (IST): The use of the table accelerates recovery from back injury by increasing the blood supply to discs, ligaments, and muscles. It also increases muscle relaxation and reduces muscle spasms.

• Wobble Chair: Designed so the user must engage lower back and core muscles which is a proven solution for relieving back pain.

Decompression

Decompression is a nonsurgical spinal traction therapy that involves stretching the spine to relieve pressure on nerves and discs, often for conditions like disc bulges, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, spinal stenosis and sciatica. A chiropractor uses a special table to apply a controlled, gentle stretching force, aiming to reduce pain by pulling pressure off nerve roots and encouraging nutrient-rich fluids into damaged discs.

Shock Wave Therapy

Shock Wave Therapy (Extracorporeal Focused Shock Wave Therapy or ESWT) is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing in chronic, stubborn or painful musculoskeletal injuries. It breaks down scar tissue, increases blood flow (angiogenesis), reduces inflammation and relieves pain by promoting natural, faster tissue regeneration in tendons, ligaments and bones.

Key Aspects of Shockwave Therapy

• Conditions Treated: Frequently used for chronic tendonitis (Achilles, tennis/golfer’s elbow), plantar fasciitis, shoulder pain (rotator cuff), and, in some cases, bone injuries.

• How it Works: A handheld probe delivers focused sound waves to the affected area causing micro-trauma that triggers the body’s natural healing processes, such as fibroblast activation and collagen production.

• The Procedure: It is an outpatient procedure lasting 5 to 10 minutes with minimal, if any, downtime and no need for anesthesia.

• Effectiveness: It is often considered for patients who have not found relief from traditional treatments like physiotherapy or injections.

What to Expect

• Pain/Discomfort: While the therapy is safe, it may cause some minor discomfort during the session due to the energy being applied to an already painful, injured area.

• Results: While some patients feel relief sooner, it may take 4 to 12 sessions for full results depending on the severity of the injury.

• Side Effects: Potential, mild short-term side effects may include temporary redness, skin irritation or bruising.

Cupping Therapy*

Cupping therapy is an ancient healing technique used to reduce pain and inflammation. It involves placing cups on problematic areas of the body and creating suction to separate the underlying tissue to create space for proper blood flow, amplifying the body's natural healing process. Cupping assists with muscle and tissue relaxation, which decreases muscle tightness and improves range of motion. It can also help with chronic neck and low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, plantar fasciitis, and much more!

*Disclaimer: Cupping therapy should NOT be used on people with anemia, bleeding disorders, blood clotting issues, seizures, cardiovascular disease, and certain skin conditions.
